You load into a T16 City Square in POE 3.29, an Abyss opens near the outer lane, and suddenly the map stops feeling like a map-it feels like a moving conveyor belt of XP. That is the appeal of this setup: it turns a familiar layout into a repeatable level-push loop, while POE currency can still matter for stocking maps, scarabs, and rerolls between sessions. The catch is that Abyss only feels amazing when your build clears while moving; a slow, overstuffed setup turns dense spawns into a time sink.

Why City Square Fits the Abyss Grind

POE 3.29 Abyss farming works because City Square keeps your decisions simple. You are not constantly choosing between distant branches, backtracking for stragglers, or hunting through awkward dead ends. Follow the outer circuit, trigger the Abyss, erase the packs, and keep your momentum. Eight-mod T16 maps raise density and payoff, but they are not automatically correct. A map that adds two minutes of caution is worse for XP than a slightly lighter roll you can clear on autopilot without deaths.

Build for uptime, not tooltip bragging rights

The best POE 3.29 Abyss characters have enough screen coverage to catch monsters as they emerge, enough movement speed to stay on the path, and enough recovery to survive the messy moments around rare packs. Big DPS is nice, but delayed damage, long ramp windows, and clunky targeting can ruin the rhythm. At least in my experience, the build that feels a little less flashy in hideout often wins after thirty City Square maps because it never stops moving.

Do run maps in batches; do not roll one, run one, then return to hideout.
Do keep a strict loot filter; do not inspect every rare base during an XP push.
Do test eight-mod maps gradually; do not assume your mapping loadout handles every modifier combination.
Do prioritize recovery and speed alongside damage; do not trade safety for a tiny theoretical DPS gain.

The Scarab Plan Has a Clear Purpose

The core POE 3.29 recipe from current testing is two Multitude Scarabs plus three Abyss Scarabs, supported by Atlas passives aimed at Abyss monster count, encounter structure, and experience. That focus matters. Throwing Breach, Delirium, Beyond, altars, and every available extra mechanic into one map can look efficient on paper, yet each detour asks for attention and adds variance. Searing Exarch influence can fit a fast build that handles altars instantly, but skip choices that force you to read, calculate, and second-guess mid-run. XP farming is a pace test.

Pure XP or the rare-stacking version?

POE 3.29 players often blur these two approaches together, then wonder why their hourly results feel inconsistent. The pure version wants quick Abyss completion and immediate map resets. The rare-stacking version, using Propagation, Allflame interactions, and scarab-oriented rewards, asks you to care more about which rares spawn and what they become. It can produce stronger loot moments, but it is a different session with different priorities.

Approach
Best for
What slows it down
Pure Abyss XP
Level 95-100 pushes
Excess looting and boss detours
Rare-stacking Abyss
XP plus scarabs and currency
Waiting on modifiers and checking rewards

What I Wish More XP Guides Mentioned

In POE 3.29, your reset discipline is part of the farm. The final Abyss reward point deserves a fast check, and City Square bosses are fine if your single-target is genuinely fast, but neither should become a ritual that drags every map out. Track a ten-map sample instead of celebrating one lucky run. Record start level, end XP, deaths, and total time. From what I've seen, this exposes the real problem quickly: most weak XP sessions are not caused by bad RNG, but by hideout drift, loot hesitation, and maps your build does not clear comfortably.

The Verdict for POE 3.29

Abyss City Square is one of the cleanest POE 3.29 routes for players who want measurable progress rather than a pile of distractions. Prepare T16 maps, commit your Atlas points and scarabs to density, then protect the tempo that makes the strategy work. And if you need to refill supplies before a serious level-100 grind, POE buy currency is part of the wider planning conversation, but your real result still comes from a build that clears safely, a filter that keeps you honest, and the willingness to start the next map.
